Obituary of Shirley Creighton
Shirley W. Creighton , 84, of Central West River, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, N.S.
Born in Westville, June 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John Allan and Mary Ethel (Stewart) Campbell, second youngest of 9 children.
Shirley met her future husband, Don, at the age of 16. They married 2 years later and lived in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Manitoba and Ontario, raising 3 “Army Brats”. Don and Shirley retired in West River in 1973 where they built their dream home, driving every nail themselves with help from family. Shirley loved to bake, knit and spoil her grandchildren.
Shirley will be dearly missed by her husband of 66 years 3 months and 23 days, Major W. Donald Creighton, daughters, Deborah Creighton-Coffin (Peter) and Wendy Creighton-Lacroix (Andre), and son Donald (Karen) ; grandchildren, Erin Coffin (Jeremy LeBlanc); Chantal, Robert and Christopher Lacroix; Gregory, Kayla, and Korey Creighton; chosen daughter, Doreen Wright (Mike); chosen grand children, Cody and Shawna Wright, special nephew, Reg Campbell (Debbie) as well as several other nieces and nephews. .
She was predeceased by sisters Marion MacLean, Lena Campbell, Margie Reid, Mary Campbell; brothers, John E., Hugh and Allan Campbell, and infant sister Mary.
Visitations were held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service took place on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 2 pm at St. Luke’s United Church, Salt Springs with the Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Burial will be in Durham Cemetery. Please, no flowers. Donations to a charity of your choice.
