Obituary of Fred Baird

It is with deep sadness the family of John Frederick “Fred” Baird, 83, of New Glasgow, announce his passing on February 2, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Blue Mtn., surrounded by his loving family, after a brief but courageous battle against cancer. Fred was born on Caribou Island, where he spent his early years before moving to New Glasgow, where he married his love of 54 years, Shirley and worked hard to provide for his wife and 4 children. In his early years, Fred worked with various construction companies throughout NS, including Pictou Shipyards. He was employed for 25 yrs at Scott Paper, and when not working would be found tending his many gardens and fishing off Caribou Island with his cousins Tracey and David. Fred will be dearly missed by his wife Shirley (Megeney); daughter, Cheryl Michaud (Jacques), Blue Mtn.; sons, Kevin (Sandra), New Glasgow; Paul, New Glasgow; Mark (Carla), Moncton; grandchildren, Emily, Katie, Justin, Tyler, Cory, Christian, Paige, and Keira. He was predeceased by his parents John and Drusilla (Dixon) Baird; sisters, Mary MacKenzie and Doris Ruest; brothers, Henry, Sterling, Jim, and 2 infant brothers; and 2 infant grandchildren. Fred rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Wednesday from Feb. 5. His funeral service was held 2 o’clock Thursday Feb. 6 from Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton with the Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Burial took place at Waterside Cemetery, followed by a reception at Blue Mtn Fire Hall at 5 pm In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or Canadian Cancer Society.
