Obituary of Osborne Eagles

Osborne G. Eagles, age 87 years, North Main Street Westville, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Westville, he was the son of the late Arthur and Norma (Wood) Eagles. In his youth, he worked briefly in the Drummond Coal Mine and then as a locomotive fireman at the C.N.R. Stellarton roundhouse. Mr. Eagles completed his studies to become an Embalmer and Funeral Director in 1946, fulfilling a career goal he had since he was seven years old.. He owned and operated Eagles Funeral Home in Westville since 1946. He proudly served the people of Westville and the surrounding communities in his capacity as Funeral Director for more than 50 years and received the distinction as an honourary member of the Funeral Service Association of Nova Scotia. After his retirement, he maintained an interest and an affiliation with the family business. In addition to the funeral home, Ossie owned and operated Eagles Flower Shop and Eagles Jewellery and Gifts for 30 years. Ossie was a member of the St. Paul United Church, Westville. He also belonged to the Maple Leaf Lodge Knights of Pythias, Westville. A family man as well, he is survived by his daughter Janet Doucette, sons David (Sylvia), Arthur (Bonny), all of Westville and grandchildren: Eddie, Robbie and Beth Doucette; Catherine Eagles; Laura, Artie, Jenny and Maria Eagles. He is also survived by a brother Terry, New Glasgow. Ossie was predeceased by his wife Wilma (Favier), daughter Joyce, son-in –law Ed Doucette, sisters Edith Eagles and Marjorie Savage, and infant brother Herbie. His funeral was held at 2 pm Tuesday July 21 from the St. Paul United Church, Westville with the Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial was in the Auburn Cemetery.
