Obituary of Elfriede Snelgrove

Ir is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Elfriede Hildegard Snelgrove of Mount William age 77. She passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, February 23, 2014. Elfriede was born in Mannheim, Germany on December 21, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Helmut and Elisabeth Stoll of Baden-Baden, Germany and came to Canada as a young bride in 1957. Elfriede is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Harold A. Snelgrove of Mount William and her four children, Christel Fleet (John) of Moser River, Heidi Watling (Jamie) of Quispamsis, NB, Caterina Kmill (Donald) of Thunder Bay, ON and Thomas Snelgrove (Kimberley) of Lantz, NS. She is also survived by ten loving grandchildren, Roxanna and Jesse Fleet, Jeremy, Riley (Andrea) and Darby Watling, Mark, Benjamin and Stacey Kmill and Gregory and Jenna Sneglrove and leaves behind two sisters, Sonja Buse (Heinz), Christel Pfiefer of Germany and one brother Wolfgang Stoll (Nada) of Croatia, as well as sister-in-law Marion Marshall of Mount William, brother-in-law Edward Snelgrove (Beverly) of Dartmouth, NS.and several nieces and nephews. After 24 years of employment Elfriede retired from Zellers at the Aberdeen Mall in 1998 and was well known by many for her sewing and alteration services. In her retirement she enjoyed gardening, daily walks, spending time with her family and was always up to trying new recipes. Elfriede was a very proud grandmother, which was evident to everyone who knew her. She was a member of Saint Bees’ Anglican Church congregation in Westville. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the Palliative Care staff for their exceptional care and compassion to Elfriede and a special thank you to Dr. Farrell and Dr. Jeans-Mingo. Arrangements are entrusted to Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. At Elfriede’s request there will be no visitation. Her funeral service was held 2 o’clock Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Saint Bees’ Anglican Church, Westville. Internment will be held at a later date at Mount William Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson Society Canada, the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital or to a charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated by the family.
