Obituary of Doris Barber

Doris Elizabeth Barber, Porters Lane, Westville, formerly of Lansdowne, NS passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital May 5, 2014. Born November 30, 1926 in Westchester, England, the daughter of John Henry and Nellie Barber. They moved to Stewiacke, NS at her age 6 months and then she and her brother moved to Lansdowne, Pictou Co. at age 9 to live with and be raised by Christine MacKay where she lived most of her life. Doris will be remembered by many of the residents in the Lansdowne area where she got the mail bags from the train and sorted the mail at the post office in their house. It was the common gathering place in the community until mail delivery at the post office was replaced with rural route delivery from town. She is survived by a foster sister Frances Thompson, foster nephews and nieces Melvin (Patricia) MacKay and Wayne (Susan) MacKay, Union Centre, Carolyn Cournoyea, LeDuc, Ab., William (Beth) Thompson Westville. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother , James William Barber who was killed in Action in Europe in 1944 and foster mother Christine MacKay, Lansdowne and foster sister Isabel MacKay, Union Centre. Here funeral service wasbheld on Wednesday May7 from the Eagles Funeral Chapel. Interment was in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
