Obituary of George Dooley
George Franklin “Huck” Dooley, 83, of Westville, passed away Sunday evening, June 8, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his family by his side.
Born in Westville, he was a son of the late John and Florence (MacFarlane) Dooley.
Huck was a coal miner for all of his working life at the Drummond Mine, where he was mine manager for 17 years. He was a well known captain of the Draeger Team, being involved with mine rescue, and had taught coal mining at Stellarton Vocational School. He had a large personality, who had a nickname for everyone.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Mary (Mahoney); daughter, Frances (Stephen), Hopewell; sons, Kyle (Laurie), Arichat; Randy (Mary), Westville; Jay (Noreen), Grand Cache, Alta.; Donnie (Sherri), Westville; Michael (Annie), White Hill; 17 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister Alice Munro; brothers Harry “Had” and Jimmy.
Huck rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting Wednesday June 12. There was no funeral service by request. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
