Obituary of George Cameron

George Joseph Cameron. 90 , Foster Avenue, Stellarton passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at his home. Born in Stellarton, October 18, 1923, he was a son of the late Hugh George and Mary Ellen (MacInnis) Cameron. George was a modest and quiet man, always willing to do his part, but never wanting to be portrayed in the spotlight. He enjoyed people and their family history, being very compassionate about family difficulties and unfortunate circumstances. George took pride in the appearance of his property and was an integral part of his close-knit family. He regaled in reading and discussing history. In his younger days, George was an avid skater, always being seen at adult skates in Pictou County and sometimes Truro. George liked tinkering with machinery, and because of this skill, he was chosena member of The Trois Riviere (Three Rivers) Tank Brigade during WW11. He participated in the invasion of Italy, being seriously wounded when his tank was struck. George returned to his family and home after the war, being employed primarily at Maritime Steel in New Glasgow until retirement. He enjoyed this new phase of his life and embraced it with enthusiasm and Faith He will be sadly missed by his sister Virginia “Virgie”. George was predeceased beside his parents by a brother Wilfred and sister Eleanor. George will rest at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with visiting on Friday from 10 - 10:45 followed by his funeral service at the Church at 11 am. with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Lourdes Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
