Obituary of Wilbert MacDonald
Wilbert Erwin MacDonald, age 81, Lyons Brook, Pictou County, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at his home with his family at his side.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Alexander and Jessie (Sharpe) MacDonald.
He was a farmer in St. Pauls, before moving to Lyons Brook where he continued to farm for several years. He became a school bus driver, and eventually a mechanic for Pictou County School Board for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou. Wilbert was an outdoors man who enjoyed his bee keeping, gardening, hunting, and sport fishing. A master wood carver, Wilbert created many beautiful pieces of art which he humbly displayed only in his home.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie Nelson; daughters, Shirley Neily (Keith), Fall River; Anne MacDonald Martin (Paul), Brule; son Nelson (Maureen), Loch Broom; grandchildren, Shawn and Breanne Neily; Nathan and Hannah Martin; Bryan, Alexander, and Dylan MacDonald; and sister Bertha Fraser, Halifax.
He was predeceased by brother Fred MacDonald; sisters, Kathleen Sutherland and Rhoda Steele.
Cremation has taken place. His family will receive visitors at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday. His funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Tuesday, from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou with Rev. Steven Webb officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
