Obituary of Gordon MacLeod

Gordon Malcolm George MacLeod , passed away at Aberdeen Hospital on November 27, 2014 at age 94. Born June 22, 1920 in Oxford, NS to the late Major Alexander (Les) and Florence (Hook) MacLeod. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Evelyn (Pitcher), and by children: Roger (Margaret) MacLeod of Barrie, ON., J. Susan (John) Lorimer of Stellarton, NS and Carol (Dennis) Docherty of Meaford, ON. Grandchildren: Dale (Nancy) MacLeod, David (Melissa) MacLeod, Gillian (Frank) Docherty and Andrew (Mona) Docherty. Great-Grandchildren: Mathew and Amanda, (MacLeod), Eric and Nicole (MacLeod), Holli and Taylor (Clarke) all of Ontario; and by brother, Norman (Kitty) MacLeod, PEI, as well as by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son, Robert (Bobby) MacLeod in 1968. Predeceased by brothers , Fred, Douglas, Harvey and Roderick MacLeod and sisters, Mabel MacKay, Joan MacDonald. Gordon joined the Pictou Highlanders in 1938 and Served in Canadian Army overseas from 1940 to 1946. Dad worked in retail hardware throughout his life, as Manager and then Supervisor of Retail Operations for Thompson & Sutherland Hardware Store, Manager of Sumner Company, Charlottetown, PEI and President & General Manager of Moncton Hardware. He was owner and President of MacLeod Hardware (Westville) Limited from 1967 to 1970 and then became Divisional Manager of T.P. Calkin Limited (Hardware & Bldg Supplies) and finally retired as Branch Manager of Sumner Company, Stellarton in 1982. Gordon was Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #34 New Glasgow, the New Glasgow Gyro Club, the Royal Canadian Artillery Memory Assoc., the Westville Curling Club, the MacLeod Society of North Nova Scotia, the Pictou County Seniors Festival, Founding Member and President of the Westville Heritage Seniors Group. He also served as Chancellor Commander, Knights of Phythias #21, Westville. He also served several terms as Councilor, Town of Westville, and chaired the Westville Police Commission. Special thanks to the wonderful care Dad received at Shiretown Nursing Home and from the caring doctors and nurses at the Aberdeen Hospital. Cremation has taken place.
