Elizabeth "Betty" Alice (Hughes) DeYoung . 77, 1937-2014. Antigonish Nova Scotia Loving and adoring wife of James "Jimmy" DeYoung, Dunmore Road, Antigonish, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. Born and raised in Westville, Pictou County she maintained true to her roots. Westville was always "Home". So she will rest there. Though she worked 45 yrs outside the home Mom was a nurturer and caregiver to her children and many grandchildren and foster children. Her love for her home and family was abounding. She will be sorely missed by all those who had the privilege to know and love her. Besides her husband Jimmy, Betty is survived by her seven children, Debi (Dale) Palm, Minnesota; James Jr., Westville; Dawn Robin (Leo) Vincent; Vanda (Fred) Chisholm; Derek, all of Antigonish; Kelly (Anthony) Bennett, Havre Boucher and Jeffery (Annette), Pleasant Valley Pictou Co. Known as Nanny Betty to all children who entered her family and home she is also survived by 13 grandchild , DJ (Naomi), Darren (Sylvia) and David (Kristeen) Corning, Molly Lee, Gabrielle and Alisha McNeill, Trevor (Mary Ellen) DeYoung, Myra (Dwayne) MacKenzie), Colin and Douglas Chisholm, Tristen (Margaret) Deyoung , Mitchell and MiKayla DeYoung. She was also Great Grandmother to 8 very special little people who loved her dearly, Kristina Lilly, Dustin, Mylin, Hanna, Lucas, Deacon, Lucy and Oren. Mom held a very special bond with her only sister Diane (Harry) Lamey and her many brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews. A lover of dogs she will be sadly missed by Daisy, Sparky, Ollie, Nicky and Hudson. Everyone truly enjoyed a visit to Nanny Betty's house where everyone was welcome. Betty was predeceased by her parents Samuel and Margaret (Parsons) Hughes, brother Sammy Hughes, infant daughter Mya Arnell, as well as several sisters and brothers in law. Elizabeth Alice DeYoung will be cremated. Her remains will be in the care of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville Nova Scotia. A Memorial Service to honour Betty and celebrate her life was held on Saturday, Nov. 29th 2014 at 1:00pm, Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Nova Scotia A gathering of family and friends followed at the St. Paul United Church Hall (light refreshments will be served) Family Flowers Only Please.
