Obituary of Agnes Keating
Agnes, known to all those who loved her as Mama, was born in Mulgrave, NS, on September 23, 1915, to the late William and Elizabeth (Jones) Keating.
She grew up in Mulgrave where she met her one true love, Xavier, beginning their life’s journey together on November 20, 1939.
Agnes devoted her life to raising their nine children and although saddened by the loss of six other children in infancy, she had the willpower and patience to work through the difficult times. She brought joy and happiness to all who knew her. She loved to cook and it would not be unusual for her to serve fifteen or twenty at Sunday dinner. She cherished people: “The more the merrier”, she would say. She was one in a million.
Agnes will be forever remembered by her loving children, sons, Gary (Huguette), Brandon, Man.; Terry (Mary), Westville; Michael, Pictou; Gerry (Joanne), New Glasgow; daughters, Patricia Swales (Dave), Westville; Carol Laffin (Reg), Trenton; Judy Suirane (Mike), Pictou; daughters-in-law Heather and Jacqueline, Westville, and Kay, Lower Sackville; as well as her 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband Xavier; sons John-Robert “Jack”, Francis Xavier “Sandy”; 6 children in infancy; brothers, George, Bud, Bill, and Joe; sisters Rita Kennedy, Freda, Nellie, Mary Gilbert, and Marion Rioux.
Visitations were held Sunday fNov. 30 at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service was held 11 a.m. Monday Dec. 1 from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville with Father Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial was in the Holy Name Cemetery.

You were our angel in disguise
With your laughing, Irish eyes.
Mama, you taught us oh so much
With your solid yet gentle touch.
We miss you more than we can say
But somehMama ow we knew you couldn’t stay.
You’re part of us and we of you.
Forever and a day.
