Obituary of Valda Grealey

Valda G Grealy, 1935-2014 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Valda Grealey. She may have left us on this earth but has left behind her strength for us to carry on and get through this difficult time and her wisdom to flourish for the rest of our days. Born in 1935 to the late Percy and Bernice (Meikle) Leadbeater, she went on to marry Walter Kowalski in 1952 and was able to be at home to raise their family and help with the family business (K-Electric Ltd). Valda was widowed at a young age in 1976 and sought the education needed to re-enter the workforce. She was then employed with Maritime Tel and Tel for a number of years, making great friendships and acquaintances throughout those years. She was remarried in 1986 to William (Bill) Grealey and they were delighted with their years together. Over her life, Valda’s happiness was shaped by the company of family and friends. She felt fortunate to have the great neighbors she had on both Munroe Ave Ext. and on Whitman Drive. She was blessed with great times and friendships at the Munroe Ave Ext card parties, the seniors club and the heritage club. She enjoyed travelling to exciting places, spending time at the family cottage at Pictou Landing and later the cottage at Lochaber Lake. She looked forward to her summer trips to London, Ontario. She loved music, theatre, art and playing cards. She enjoyed flowers, reading, the beauty of nature but most importantly, family gatherings. Valda is survived by daughters Darlene (Chuck) Crowell, Chance Harbour; Denise (Jeffrey) Phillips, Chance Harbour; Lori (Jack) Kilburn , Westville Road; step-daughters Glenda (Larry) Sintzel, London, ON; Mary (Raymond) MacDonald, Glace Bay, NS.
