Obituary of Eileen MacKenzie

Eileen MacKenzie, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2009 in her 91st year. She was born in Mill Brook, Pictou County, the daughter of the late Ira and Georgena MacKay. Her fondest memories were those spent with her brother Harold, caring for the horses on the family farm. For many years she ran the Texaco Service Station in Central West River along with her husband Alvin. She then moved to New Glasgow and worked in Eagles China Shop. When she was 80 she moved to Porter’s Lake to be closer to her family. She was one of the founding members of the Seniors Club there. Eileen never wanted to be idle. She loved to play bridge, do latch hook, knit and do puzzles. She was an excellent baker and was famous for her cheese biscuits, apple cranberry pie, and chocolate chip cookies. She loved to dance and she and her many friends could often be found at the local dances in Pictou County. Eileen was very proud of her grandchildren and took great pleasure in hearing about the antics of her great-grandsons. She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Bill Inglis); son Brian (Gail); brothers, George (Bunny) and Tom; four grandchildren, Derek, Corey, Erin and Ryan; and five great-grandsons. She was predeceased by her husband Alvin Neil MacKenzie; brother Harold MacKay; and sister Elda Hogg. Cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors on Sunday from 1-4 pm only at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her memorial service will be held at 11 am Monday at Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Barb Fotheringham officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
