Obituary of Mary Gordon
Mary (Oliver) Gordon. Mary Gordon passed away on December 20, 2014, in Orlando, Florida, after a brief illness.
Born in Pictou County on March 2, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Milton Oliver Sr and Jemima (MacQuarrie) Oliver, of Westville and the sister of the late Milton Oliver Jr, Westville.
She grew up in Westville and went to teachers college. She taught school in Peggy’s Cove for a year and discovered that teaching wasn’t really her thing, so she got an office job with the government in Goose Bay, Labrador. She quite enjoyed it there and had a busy social life, sometimes requesting friends in Pictou County to send along an evening gown. There she met her first husband, Harold Eads, an American in the US Air Force. She moved to Florida with Harold and lived there for the rest of her life. She was pre-deceased by Harold and by her second husband, Daniel Gordon. Mary was an animal lover and, over the years, she had many dogs and cats, often strays who wandered in needing home. She enjoyed drawing and once was approached by the Disney studios for her talent, though she chose not to pursue it. She retained her sense of humour to the end.
She stayed in touch with her childhood friends, Helen Pitts (Westville) and Vivian Brown (Moncton), throughout her life. She is survived by her niece, Jan (Oliver) Reatherford, Ottawa. Her body has been cremated and, at her request, the ashes will be buried with her parents in Heatherdale Gardens.
