Obituary of Mildred Fillier
Mildred (O’Brien) Fillier, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25th, 2009 at Shiretown Nursing Home in Pictou, Nova Scotia at age 95. Born and having spent her entire life in Westville, she was the daughter of William and Madeline (Déraspe) O’Brien. She was predeceased by husband William Fillier, daughter Noreen MacFadyen, brothers William Scully and Frederick O’Brien, and sister Sophie Ellis.
She was a long time member of the Holy Name Parish Westville, a charter member of the Catholic Women’s League and a member of the Westville Heritage Group. An avid baseball fan and card player, she enjoyed traveling across the country with the Steeltown Friendly Group. Famous for her biscuits, they were enjoyed by all who knew her.
She is survived by daughters Wilena (Bill) Stevens, Westville and Barbara (Walter) Diamond, Antigonish; sisters Beatrice Ferguson (Stellarton) and Lillian Brine (Moncton); grandchildren Erin Boutilier, Shannon Scott, John O’Brien, April Forward, John Peter O’Brien, Dustin Diamond, Molly Diamond and Dennis Diamond; great-grandchildren Amber Scott, Alex Forward, Jacob Boutilier, Emma and Kaitlyn Diamond; great-great-grandchild Elizabeth Catherine Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28th from 2-4 and 7-9 at Eagles Funeral Home Westville. Funeral Service will be held at Church of the Holy Name, Westville on Tuesday September 29th at 11:00 a.m. with Father Ray Huntley officiating.
