Obituary of Frank Terris
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Murray Franklin “Frank” Terris, age 87, of Sylvester, on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born April 21, 1927, Frank was the oldest child of the late Murray and Ivy (Shaw) Terris.
As a youth he lived on Foster Ave. in Stellarton and was very involved in sports, especially baseball and hockey. Throughout much of his adult life, Frank was a well loved teacher and coach, mainly at West Pictou District High School in Lyon’s Brook, but also earlier in Bible Hill, Dartmouth and Sherbrooke, NS, and Sherbrooke, Que. Frank touched many lives in very positive ways through teaching and coaching, and always went the extra mile for his students and athletes. He was proud to say, that he was one of the first physical education teachers in Nova Scotia and he was a strong supporter of the involvement of girls in sports.
Frank will be greatly missed by his daughter, Laurie Terris (Gilles Leger), Moncton, NB; brother Vernon Terris (Alice) and niece, Donna Terris, all of Sylvester; nephews, Glenn Terris (Elaine), Lochaber, NS; Kevin Terris (Lisa), Parksville, BC; Richard Parent (Terri), Victoria, BC; Barry Parent (Lyn), Kanata, ON; two nieces Vicky and Wendy Parent; and numerous other extended family members.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, the late Murray and Ivy Terris; sister, Marjorie (Terris) Parent and his beloved wife of 47 years, the late Margie Terris.
In accordance with Frank’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation was held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, Friday, March 6th , His memorial service was held Saturday March 7th at 11 a.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with the Rev. Meredith Fraser officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
The family expressed heartfelt appreciation to all those involved in Frank’s care, including the Pictou County V.O.N., Continuing Care, Dr. Aaron Smith and staff of Westville Medical Clinic, the staff of the Emergency Dept. and the Intensive Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, and the wonderful staff at Lawton’s Pharmacy in Westville.
In honour of Frank, donations may be made to charities supporting literacy or youth sports, or to another charity of one’s choice.
