Obituary of Herbert Legere
Herbert Bernard Legere, Westville, NS, died May 14, 2015.
Born December 16, 1923 in River Hebert, NS, Herb was the son of the late Henry and Katherine (Blanche) Legere.
Herb is survived by his sister Marion Deveau, Mavillette, NS; sons Peter (Hanne), Squamish, BC, Hal (Lynn), New Glasgow, Michael, New Glasgow, Yusuf (Hanaa), Halifax; daughters, Bernice Dooley, Halifax, Yvonne (Dodie), Westville; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by Alice, his wife of 68 years; daughter, Catherine Smith; son, Henry "Hank"; brothers, George, Harold, Hance; and sisters, Annie, Helen, Dorothy, Blanche, and Bernice.
Herb grew up on the farm in River Hebert, NS. He was a machinist by trade and was employed during WWII at the gun shop in Trenton. Later, he joined Maritime Steel and Foundries in New Glasgow, from where he retired in 1988, after 37 years of service. He was an avid curler with the Westville Curling Club, and later with the Stellar Curling Club. During his retirement, Herb was Mr. FixIt, frequently in his shop fixing bikes and other items for the neighbourhood children.
Visitation was at Eagles Funeral Home, North Main Street, Westville, NS on Monday May 18, 2015 from . A Memorial Mass was held at Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Westville at 11:00AM Tuesday May 19, 2015, with interment at Holy Name Cemetery to follow.
