Halliday, Joan Winnifred Muir (Cooper) June 21, 1921 – May 13, 2015. Passed away in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax, Daughter of Jenny (Houseman) & Percival Cooper. Predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years John Westley Halliday & Infant Daughter & Infant Grandson. Survived by daughters Pat (Fred) Wellings, Murrays Siding, Truro, NS, Jennifer Halliday, Westville & son James (Bonnie) Halliday, Dartmouth, NS. Grandchildren Stephen (Yolaine) Wellings, Christine (Pierre) Moore, Loarraine (Julio) Munoz, Jeff (Laura) Halliday, Ben Halliday. Tracie (John) Renick. Great Grandchildren Judson, Anwaar(“Honey Bee”), Arianna, Kelsey, Wesley, Abagail, Lillian, Alayna & Madalyn. “And Special family” Jeanne & Carolyn & Janice. Also survived by brothers: Gerald, Murray, Donald, Malcolm & Stewart (Barbara) Cooper. Graduated from Normal College, Truro in 1940, taught in Lorne & Halifax before being married. Later she moved to Pictou County to teach in New Larig then moved back to Halifax to teach at Bloomfield School where she met Westley again & later got married. After marriage & children she returned to teaching in Lovat, Glengarry & Trenton, retiring in the mid. seventies. She was a member of New Glasgow Horticultural Society, The Scot’s Wives bowling team (and participated until the age of 93), helped at St. Bee’s woman’s auxiliary. She was an adherent at St. Bee’s Anglican Church in Westville & was also a member of the church choir. She enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzling & most of all her Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren. Mrs. Halliday rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday. Her funeral service was held 2 o’clock WednesdayMay 20 from St. Bees Anglican Church, Westville with Rev. Marilyn Haugen-Strand officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations in her memroy may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
