Obituary of Marie Gillis

Marie Emily Gillis, 78, of Ellis Street, New Glasgow, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Ivey Terrace, Trenton with her loving family by her side. Born in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Annie (Pettipas) Deagle. A great baker and professional cook , she worked at various restaurants including Riverview Adult Centre for many years. She was famous for her homemade bread and participated in many special fund raising projects. She was a Past Vice President of the Ladies Aux. of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #35 and later an Associate Member of Br. #34, New Glasgow Legion. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with her family at their cottage in Chance Harbour. A loving mother and grandmother, she will be dearly missed by children, Judy Graham (George), River John; Ken (Peggy), New Glasgow; Weldon (Linda), Lourdes; and Susan MacIntosh (Steve), Westville; 9 grandchildren, Rick Oliver and Kelly Wagner; Jeff and Brittney Gillis; Brad and Chris Gillis; Chelsea, Stephanie and Mitchell MacIntosh; 6 great-grandchildren; several half brothers and sisters, and locally by sister Dee Brown, Granton. She was predeceased by her husband Miles; brother Billy Deagle; as well as several other half sisters and brothers. Marie is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. A private family funeral service will be held on Thursday with Rev. Donna Tourner officiating.
