Obituary of Hugh Hardy

Hugh Bernard Hardy, 70, of Greenhill, passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2015, following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Albert Hardy Sr. and Helen (Fennell) Hardy. Hughie was a quiet, committed, family man with a strong character. He was always eager to lend a helping hand and excited at the mere mention of a construction job, whether it be to build a house or hang a door for family and friends. Forever a problem solver and planner, there was nothing a cup of coffee, cigarette and graph paper couldn’t fix. Most times it was hard to tell what was more enjoyable, planning the task or doing it. A 42 year employee of Trenton Works, he found his work interesting and rewarding, while also providing an outlet for his quick wit. Embracing retirement, he spent hours “down back” on his tractor landscaping and observing nature. It also allowed him to enjoy the company of his sons and grandson Bretton. Hughie treasured the 39 years of marriage he had with his wife Arleigh and looked toward a time that they would be together again He is survived by his sons Aaron (Denise Villeneuve) Westville; Preston (Mylène LeBlanc) Salt Springs; grandson (Bretton Villeneuve ); brother Albert (Butch) Hardy, (Betty) Pictou, sisters Ann Purvis (Mike Conway) Plymouth, Jean Brennon (Charles) New Brunswick, Ruth Bezanson (Ron) Brookfield, Margo Coulter (Dale) Pictou, Linda Russell (Lawrence) New Glasgow, brothers-in-law Wayne, Greg and Fred Cunningham. He was predeceased by his wife, Arleigh (Cunningham). The family received visitors on Tuesday, August 25th at Eagles Funeral Home. His memorial service was held at Eagles Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 26th with Father Boudreau officiating. Burial was in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Sylvester.
