Obituary of Vernon Salter

Vernon Clair Salter, age 82, Salter Road, Union Centre, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Union Centre, Vernon was the son of the late Wilfred and Irene (Skerry) Salter. Vernon spent his life, home on the farm in Union Centre. Eighteen years ago, he purchased a mini home and was very comfortable there with his dogs. He worked many years with the Dept. of Highways and retired from there in 1994. He was always "at home and available" to the many wants of a large family. Vernon was a loving, dedicated Uncle to his many nieces and nephews and enjoyed their visits. Due to failing health, he became a master at "Word-Find" and jigsaw puzzles. The loving care of his care workers, Brenda and Joy, enabled Vernon to stay in his own home, as he wanted. Vernon is survived by 3 sisters, Phyllis Schinzel, Ottawa; Violet Hughes(Lloyd), New Glasgow; Helen Robinson(Johnny), Scotsburn and 3 brothers, Ron(Myrna), Union Centre; Garnett(Bonnie), Sussex, NB; Henry(Joanie), Riverton; brother-in-law, Murray Mann, Salem; sister-in-law Isabel Salter, Westville and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Treva Gordon, Joyce Mann, Hazel Salter, Rose Lenehan, Doris Legge, and brothers Bud and Allison. Vernon rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday, October 27. His funeral service was held 2 o'clock, Wednesday, October 29, from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating. Cremation followed. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Valley. Donations in memory of Vernon may be made to the Salem Presbyterian Church or the S.P.C.A.
