Obituary of Anna MacGrath

Anna Williams (MacDonald) MacGrath, of North Main St., Westville, age 97, passed away on December 2, 2015 in the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou. Born in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Julia (Frost) Snelgrove and the late John W. MacDonald. Mrs. MacGrath was a resident of Westville most of her life. She was active in the community and was a member and elder of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Westville. She served as secretary for numerous groups including: St. Andrew’s Ladies Aid, Pictou County Arthritis Society, St. Andrew’s press secretary, and Westville Heritage Group. Mrs. MacGrath was treasurer of the Bessie Munro Missionary Society, Sunday school teacher, Bible Society and Presbytery representative. She was a member of the Clan Donald Society, Federation of Scottish Clans, Murray Temple #4 Order of the Pythian Sisters, Westville Seniors Heritage Cancer Society and the United Way. She was a former employee of Odeon, Famous Players and Empire Theatres. Her passion in life outside of her family, was quilting, camping, and her canine companions. Anna was dearly loved by her family and would always offer her hand to help, putting other needs before her own. She had a quick wit and great sense of humour. She was a true friend to everyone in her life and will be sadly missed by all her knew her. She is survived and will be dearly missed her daughter Julie MacNeil (Doug), Westville; son Brian (Claire), Mississauga; six grandchildren, Darren, Janice, Carla, Rochelle, Breanne and Alicia; four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Liam, Aiden and Chloe; three sisters, Florence MacNeill-Knoll, Truro; Jean Muir (Harry), Westville; Muriel MacDonald (Herbie), Lyons Brook; brother Major Walter Snelgrove (Thelma), PEI; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband George, sister Ida Hale; brother Clifford; stepfather Isaac Snelgrove; and two nephews. Mrs. MacGrath rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visitation on Sunday, December 6, 2015. Her funeral service was held Monday, December 7, 2015 from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville. Interment was in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church or the Arthritis Society.
