Zela Virginia Fairhurst, 96, of Westville, died on December 13, 2015 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, where she had been a resident for the last four years. She was a wife of the late George Fairhurst, to whom she was married for 53 years.
Born in Stellarton on June 10, 1919, she was one of 18 children born to the late William and Bessie H. (Davidson) Taylor. Raised and educated in Stellarton, she resided on Queen Street, Westville all her married life until she entered Glen Haven.
A devoted and dedicated homemaker, she was a woman of great pride, grace and strength who cherished every moment spent with family. Our mother took a great interest in her Church, St. Andrew’s, and served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary and Guild. She also enjoyed her craft club, cake decorating and ceramic classes.
Zela is survived by her son Edward Fairhurst (Teddy), New Glasgow; daughter, Betty Cyr (Sandy); 5 grandchildren, Cindy MacDonald (Mel); Marlene Vaughan (Darren); Wanda Cruise (Bob); Edward Fairhurst (Emma); Michele (David Mercier); and 7 great-grandchildren; sister Ethel Gordon (late Robert), Acushnet, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1992 and 16 siblings.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff of Glen Haven Manor for the care given to Mom and the comfort extended to our family during our mother’s final days.
