Obituary of Margaret Lowe

Margaret Alfreda Lowe, of The Maritime Oddfellow’s Home, Pictou, formerly of Westville Road, New Glasgow, passed away November 1, 2009 at 97 years of age. Born in Sutherlands River, Pictou Co., January 31, 1912, she was the eldest daughter of the late George Leo Martin and Christine (Baudoux) Martin Reim and step-father Joseph Reim. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In her early years, she was employed as a Nurses Aide at the old Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. Margaret was involved in many activities including Past Noble Grand of Crystal Fountain Rebekah Lodge No. 11, a member for over 50 years; Captain of the 1st Westville Road Company Girl Guides, President of the Service Club of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay, member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton; and taught Sunday School at the Westville Road School. Margaret enjoyed crafts and sewing and taught leather work at New Glasgow Junior High School. When her sons were young she enjoyed the summers spent with family and friends at their cottage in Granton. She and Harold enjoyed traveling and in later years looked forward to their trips to Florida. Margaret is survived by sons, George Harold (Cathy) Lowe, New Glasgow; Eldred Cecil (Linda) Lowe , Lochaber; grandchildren, E. Harold (Cis) Lowe, MacLellans Mountain, Paul J. (Alice) Lowe, Pictou; Jennifer M. (Troy) Aikens, Trenton; Stephanie D. Lowe, New Glasgow; great grandchildren, Paul J. (Rebecca) Lowe, Pictou; Emma M. Aikens, Trenton, great-great grandchildren, Brianna and Kindra Lowe, Pictou; daughter- in- law, Jackie Lowe, Pictou; sister-in-law, Isabelle Morrell, Fall River, NS; brother-in-law, Danny Dobson, Ottawa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, John Harold Lowe; brothers Cecil Martin and his wife, Val; Wentzell Reim and his wife Nita; sisters Laura Yuill and her husband Brent; and Leona Dobson Visitations will be held Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 1-1:45 p.m. followed by her funeral service at 2 p.m. from Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, with Rev. Charles MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only.
