Obituary of Edward O'Reilly
Edward Francis O’Reilly, 95 , Hopewell, Pictou Co., passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital with his wife at his side.
Born in New Glasgow on August 9, 1920, he was a son of the late Joseph B. O’Reilly and Lauretta (Creighan) O’Reilly.
Ed grew up in New Glasgow, where he received his education. An overseas veteran of W.W.II, Ed served in the Royal Canadian Army from 1942 - 1945 in Continental Europe. He was employed as a Supervisor at Maritime Steel until 1974 and Hawker Siddeley until his retirement in 1980. In retirement, he enjoyed his home, his vegetable garden, cross country skiing and cottage life.
Ed is lovingly remembered by his wife Mercedes (Druhan); brothers, Emmett O’Reilly (Bertha), Montreal; Pat O’Reilly, Kingston Ont.; brother - in law Vernon Wilson, Hopewell and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Stella Boudreau (Vincent), Josie MacLean (John), Eleanor O’Reilly and Myrtle Wilson.
Ed rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Monday April 11. His funeral service was held 11 am Tuesday A[pril 12 from The Church of The Holy Name, Westville with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of one’s choice.
