Obituary of Nick MacNaughton
We regret to announce the death of Edward K. “Nick” MacNaughton, on May 14, 2016 in his 85th year, at Glen Haven Manor.
Born in New Glasgow, on March 25, 1931, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Davis) MacNaughton and the last surviving member of his family.
In his earlier years, he was a coal miner for a short time. He served 3 years at Fork York, Germany from 1955-1957 with the Royal Canadian Regiment. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #69, Westville. Nick lived most of his life living in Fox Brook where he worked as a farm hand on the Fraser Farm and remained there until March 2015 when he entered the Aberdeen Hospital. On November 25, 2015 he then moved into Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Nick is survived by his daughter Margaret Carter (Jim); 2 grand-daughters Liela Bratenback (Simon) and Amy Moore; 3 great-grandchildren Reese, Harper and Oliver; all are from Stoney Plain, Alta. He is also survived by special friend (Margaret’s mother) Ellen Scott., Ont.; special nephew Seymour Dixon, Westville; special niece Vera Seaman, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Buddy, in infancy; Vernon, James and Seymour “Dykie”; sisters, Vesta MacEachern, Genevieve Marcott, Priscilla Becken, Irene Kennedy, Jessie Marshall, Eleanor Dixon, and Margaret McLaughlin.
His family received visitors on Thursday, May 19 at Eagles Funeral Home. His memorial service was held Friday, May 20, from Eagles Funeral Chapel with Rev. Norman Marple officiating. Burial of ashes in MacLeod Cemetery.
