Obituary of Phyllis Leadbeater

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our cousin, Phyllis Bernice Leadbeater, age 85, of Westville. She passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital, on May 25, 2016 following a brief illness. Born on November 2, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Bernice (Meikle) Leadbeater. Phyllis was a teacher and taught school for a year at Alma, and 37 years at Chelsea School in Westville. She was a member of St. Paul United Church, Westville, taught Sunday School for many years and was Chief Counselor of Explorers. Phyllis was a member of the former Bertha Unit of St. Paul United and worked at MacLellan Camp for many summers. She was a member of Pictou Presbytery, a member of the Retired Teachers, and a member of the former After 5Club. Phyllis loved to travel south in the winter, to such places as the Philippines, Spain, and Argentina, and went around the world making many new friends. On her travels, she met 4 of her 9 foster children from developing countries. She supported them for many years. She loved children very much and loved making friends the world over. Phyllis is survived by cousins Valerie Taylor (Gary), Trudy MacKay (Frank), Shirlee Heighton (Glen Baker), chosen grand-daughter Shauna MacKay; sister-in-law Irene Leadbeater, niece Tanya Brown; and nieces Darlene Crowell (Chuck), Denise Phillips and Lori Kilburn (Jack). She was predeceased by brother Douglas, sister Valda Grealey and step-mother Lillian Leadbeater. Phyllis rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville on Friday, May 27, 2016. Her funeral service was held 11 o'clock on Saturday, May 28, 2016 from St. Paul United Church, Westville with the Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial was in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
