Obituary of Alan Pitts

Alan Daniel Pitts, 67, formerly of Westville, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 7, 2016 at his home in Ottawa. Al was the eldest son of Muriel Muir - Pitts, Westville, and the late Daniel W. Pitts. Al leaves to mourn his Mother, sisters Sharon Henderson, Roger’s Hill, Brenda, Langley, BC, Norma (Gordon) Smith, Lwr. Sackville, Elaine (Paul) Steeves, Langley, Janet McLeod, Thailand, Barb (Allan) Byard, Langley, and Christa Leigh, Little Harbour; brothers Jim, North Battleford, SK., Robbie, Truro, Brian (Brenda), Lwr. Sackville, and Clinton (Rhonda), Westville; 5 nieces, 5 nephews; 2 grand nieces, and 4 grand nephews. He was predeceased by his father, wife Nicole, brother Daniel Charles (Dennis), and sister Anne Marie in infancy. Al enjoyed living and working in Ottawa for almost 50 years. After his retirement from work in the construction industry, he remained active in his community and always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to seniors in his neighbourhood, assistance that was always much appreciated, and remembered. Early morning coffee with his buddies at the local Tim’s was a much enjoyed daily ritual. In winter Al enjoyed following the Ottawa Senators hockey team. He was ready for a challenging game of cribbage at anytime. His visits home to Nova Scotia were occasions we all looked forward to and greatly enjoyed; equally enjoyable were our visits with him in Ottawa. His family had been looking forward to his next visit home this summer. A cheerful, friendly and helpful guy, he will be sorely missed. The family will be forever grateful to Al’s Ottawa friends for their generous support and many kindnesses extended to the family in their bereavement. His funeral service took place on Thursday, Augusat 17 , from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville, with Fr. Bernie MacAdam officiating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery, Westville. Family flowers only. If one so wishes, a donation in Al’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or to the charity of one’s choice.
