Obituary of Helen Connors

Helen Jean (Stewart) Connors, age 94, formerly of Westville passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Edna (MacLeod) Stewart, Westville. Helen lived in Westville and spent most her life there until she moved to New Glasgow several years ago. She was educated in the Westville and Stellarton school systems. Following graduation she took a secretarial course and worked for several firms before her marriage to Allan Connors in 1943. She was a stay at home Mom for her 4 children, but worked part time at different places including the Goodman Company. Following Allan’s death she was employed at the District Planning Commission until her retirement. Following her retirement, she became an active volunteer at the Hospital Auxiliary, the Museum of Industry, and as a member of the Board of Directors for H.C.R.S. Helen was always active in community affairs and canvassed for many organizations. She was a life member and former Clerk of Session of St. Paul United Church and was active in all phases of church life including leadership in Sunday School, Messengers, C.G.I.T., and Junior Congregation. She was a life member of the United Church Women, a 50 plus year member of the Westville Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter presiding over the Golden Wings Session in Westville in 1977. She served as a committee member of the General Grand Chapter and attended many Triennial Sessions throughout Canada and the United States. She is survived by a son Tom (Denise), Orleans, Ont.; daughters, Edna MacDonald (Edward), Orleans, Ont.; Susan Martin (Joe), Trenton; son in law John Cameron; grandchildren, Shelley Field, Robert Cameron, Cheryl and Kevin MacDonald, Allan and Desiree Connors; great-grandchildren, Chase, Madison, Thomas, Caleb, Alexandra, Dylan, Easton, Penny, Ada; step-grandchildren, Mandy, Tiffany, and Ashley; step-great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jordan, Haillie, Sophie, and Joelle; sisters, Alice Wilson (Purdy), and Edna Lauchlan, sister-in-law, Maureen Roddick and brother-in-law Robert Connors (Kay); and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, and her husband, she was predeceased by daughters, Barbara Cameron and Nancy in infancy; grand-daughters, Heather and Terry; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Katrina; sisters, Mary, Annie, Margaret, Susan, Gladys, and Florrie and brothers Victor, Basil, Alvin, and John. Helen rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Order of the Eastern Star conducted a service 6:30 Thursday at the Funeral Home. Her funeral service was held 1 o’clock Friday from St. Paul United Church, Westville with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial was in the Auburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul United Church or the V.O.N. “May She Rest in Peace Under the Shadow of His Wings”
