Obituary of Tom MacKay
Thomas Roy MacKay, age 54 years, of Churchville, passed away on September 6, 2016, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, on March 16, 1962, he was a son of the late Elwood and Mary (Chapman) MacKay, Loch Broom.
A coal miner and draeger man , Tom worked at the Drummond Mine and later at Westray and was an employee of Pioneer Coal Co. for over 20 years. He received a medal of bravery for being a draeger man at Westray. A free spirit guy, Tom enjoyed his dogs, playing pool and driving his motorcycle.
He will be dearly missed by his partner Mary Duggan and her children, Kory, Koady, and grandchild Keiran; sister, Loretta “Lottie” Crockett, Loch Broom; brothers, Joseph (Hellen), Loch Broom and John “Jock”, Labrador City; sister-in-law Beverly, Westville; step-children, Darren, Tasha, Kurt;
He was predeceased by wife Cheryl Smith and her son Joey and wife Juanita Mattie and her son Corey; his brothers, John Charles, Stephen, and Michael.
Tom rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Thursday . His funeral service was held 2 o’clock Friday September 9 from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Pastor Harold Winter officiating.
