Obituary of Ian MacKenzie
Ian Kenneth MacKenzie, 93 of Millbrook, Pictou County passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his wife and family at his side.
Born in Gairloch, he was a son of the late Hector and Georgina (Johnson) MacKenzie.
Ian had a great love for music, enjoyed the kitchen parties and was well known for entertaining at many occasions. A life member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Gairloch, he served on the Board of Managers and in the Church Choir and was also a member of the Heritage Society.
In his earlier years, he was a bus driver for the Pictou County Bus Lines before moving to Ontario where he worked at the Dupont Plant and other enterprises. Upon returning to his beloved home of Millbrook, he worked in accounting and clerical work at various places including Canadian Tire, Sumners, Scotsburn Co-Op and MacKenzie Framing and Woodworking.
A easy going gentleman, Ian was always willing to give a helping hand in anyway he could. His home was always welcoming where he especially enjoyed his visits from his grand children
Married for 72 years, Ian will be dearly missed by his wife Alice (Thompson); daughters, Doreen Fraser (Gordon); Millbrook; Brenda Rundle (Bill), Millbrook; son Dean (Ann Marie ), Westville.; grand children Adam, Carrie, Kelly, Tracey, Brody and Joshua and brother Hector (Eleanor), Green Hill.
He was predeceased by his grand son Cory Fraser and sisters, Florence MacDonald, Mary MacLean and Ethel MacCulloch, and brothers, Johnson and Daniel.
Visitations were held fon Wednesday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His memorial service was on Thurday September 29 at Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Bonnie Langille officiating. Burial will be in Gairloch Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Gairloch or to a charity of one’s choice.
