Obituary of Lillian MacKenzie
It is with great sadness that the daughters of Lillian Isabel MacKenzie (Matheson) of Westville, announces her passing at the Valley View Villa on October 12, 2016.
Lillian was born in Gairloch, Pictou County on March 28, 1920. She was the eldest daughter of the late Della (Matheson) Rutherford.
Lillian was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Westville and a life member of the Barbara MacKenzie Auxiliary. She also took a keen interest in her home church in Gairloch.
Lillian was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them in her home and at the cottage. She enjoyed her many trips with her family and her annual winter trips to Florida in later years.
Lillian was a great card sender. She enjoyed corresponding by way of cards and letters. She will be fondly remembered for her many notes of encouragement or greetings. She was admired for her memory of dates and details.
Lillian is survived by her three daughters, Shirley, Bernice, and Marion, now of Westville; sisters, Elma Dickie, Truro, Margaret Rhodes, California, Laura Shea (Jim), Dartmouth; and sister-in-law Jean MacKenzie, Westville; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John and brother Robert.
Visitations were held Thursday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville with Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Gairloch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville, Gairloch Church Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank all the home care workers who came to her house the last number of years. She would want us to thank Dr. Forbes and the staff of Westville Lawton’s Pharmacy as well. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff of Valley View Villa for their professionalism, kindness, and compassion, not only to Lillian, but to her daughters. Finally, a special thanks to Brenda and Beverly for their weekly visits to Mom.
