Obituary of Dorothy Levo
Dorothy Katherine (MacLellan) Levo- Age – well, … she never wanted you to know, of Green Hill, passed away on November 16, 2016 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital following a stroke.
Dorothy was born (92 years ago) and brought up in West River, the only daughter of the late Stewart and Bertha (MacKay) MacLellan.
Dorothy loved to travel, near and far. In more recent years, anywhere the car and one (or more) of her girls was going, Dorothy was ready to go too.
Dorothy spent time in service to our country during World War II as a radio operator in the Air Force. Following her marriage to Carl, they farmed, grew and marketed vegetables, and raised a family. Dorothy helped Carl build the Levo’s Garden business, specializing in rhododendrons, and spending hours in the raspberry field making sure you had a perfect spot to pick. Dorothy was also very community minded. Over the years, she volunteered for Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation and was a member of Nova Scotia Association of Garden Clubs, WINS, Estelle Unit of the UCW and the Order of The Eastern Star. She also loved gardening, knitting and spending time with her girls (both her own and chosen).
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Carl; her daughters Anne Levo Harrop, Nancy and Wendy; son-in-law Michael Harrop; grandson Andrew Levo Harrop; and Nancy’s companion, John Robinson.
Along with her parents she was predeceased by brothers Arthur, Mert and John (in infancy).
Visitation was held Friday, November 18, at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. A Celebration of Life service was held Saturday, November 19, at 1:00 pm in Green Hill – Alma United Church.
Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to the Tearman House, Green Hill - Alma United Church or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Mum loved colours. We ask that you wear bright colours to the visitation and/or the funeral, if you wish.
