Obituary of Belle Murray

Christene Isabel “Belle” Murray, 92, of Salt Springs, Pictou Co., passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Maritime Oddfellow’s Home, Pictou. Born in Gairloch, February 19, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Angus and Jean (MacKenzie) MacKenzie. Belle was a school teacher for 35 years, beginning in 1944 and taught in Granton, Mt. Thom, Salt Springs, and retired from West Pictou in 1979. She was a member of St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Salt Springs. Belle took great pride in the success of their jersey dairy farm “Twin Maples”. She also enjoyed bowling, square dancing and quilting as her hobbies. She is survived by her sister Mary Fraser; sister in law Isabel Murray; nieces and nephews, Jean Rupp, Linda Cameron, Ruth Fraser, Allan Fraser, John David MacKenzie, Allan, Kenneth and Frieda Murray, David MacKenzie, Phyllis Hull; and several close neighbours and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Preston and brother Allister MacKenzie. Mrs. Murray rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Sunday, December 18. Her funeral service was held Monday Dec. 19 from St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Salt Springs, with Rev. Mary Anne Grant officiating. Burial was in Stillman Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church or a charity of one’s choice.
