Obituary of Farrell MacKenzie

Farrell Donaldson MacKenzie, 82, of New Glasgow, formerly of Springville and Kenzieville passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Pope’s Harbour, Halifax County, he was a son of the late Capt. John C. and Amy (Hilchey) MacKenzie. Farrell was a concrete specialist by profession and had operated his own company in Labrador for several years. After returning to Nova Scotia he worked for various construction companies until his retirement. He enjoyed flying and owned his own plane. A person with many hobbies, he enjoyed skeet shooting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and hunting. Farrell always enjoyed a good conversation and debate. He will be dearly missed by his wife Rhoda (Stevens); daughter Karen Gear (James), Goose Bay; sons, Robert, Stellarton and Peter, Peace River, Alta; grandchildren, Lynn Blackwood (Marc), Marjorie Cooney (Corey), Steve Gillingham, Jayden Blakeney, and Penny MacKenzie; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Riley and Amy; sister, Glenda Scott (Paul). He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Myles Stevens (Jean), Edward Stevens (Lenora), Bill Stevens, Audrey Wright (Calvin), Angeline Stevens, Bud Cameron, and Ann Dooley. Farrell was predeceased by brother Jack (Helen) and sister Jean Prest (Clark); sisters-in-law Ina Cameron and Wilena Stevens; brothers-in-law Medford and Lawson Stevens. Farrell Mackenzie rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. His funeral service was held 1 o’clock Saturday January 28 from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Bonnie Fraser officiating. Burial will be in Stillman Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. www.eaglesfuneralhome.ca
