Obituary of Elaine Turnbull

Elaine Turnbull, of Stellarton, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the age of 84 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Born in New Glasgow on December 15, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elsie (Swanwick) Dykens. During Elaine’s working years in retail she enjoyed her job at the Metropolitan Store and later the Kmart Store where she was known as the “Lay Away” lady for many years. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed the many different species of birds that came to her back yard feeders daily. She also enjoyed watching the deer that came to her yard on a regular basis. She was a regular “Coronation Street” watcher, enjoyed crocheting, card games, and was a regular Friday Lexicon player- a word puzzle she excelled in. She enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments in life. Elaine was predeceased by her husband James Turnbull Jr; her sisters Thelma Falt, Violet Carrigan, and Etta Baker; her brothers Dan, Malcolm, and Robert Jr. Dykens; and two sisters in infancy. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Joyce Battist (Boyd), Lyons Brook, son Les (Marilyn), Truro, and son Gary, Stellarton. She will also be missed by her grandchildren; Tracy Battist, Derek Battist (Carla); Mark, Jamie (Marc), and Chad (Brooke) Turnbull; and daughter in law Vicki Turnbull. Also surviving are her brothers Baker (Winnie) and Fraser (Louise) Dykens, and her 5 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service as per Mom’s wishes. A family committal service will take place later in the spring. Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Aberdeen Hospital. “Rest in Peace Mom!”
