Obituary of Melvin Salsman
Melvin Howard Salsman, age 74, Tanner Hill Road, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his family by his side.
Born in Stormont, he was a son of the late Ernest and Rose (Worth) Salsman.
As a young boy, Mel moved to Pictou Co., eventually residing on Tanner Hill Road in 1945. Mel joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1954. His naval career took him around the world., serving on the Maggie, Bonaventure “Bonny”, Protector and Preserver, retiring from C.F.B. Shearwater in 1984. After retiring he moved back to Tanner Hill Road. He was a 25 year member of the A.A.’s, and was a member of the Alma United Church.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 49 years, Lorna (Favier); daughter Gayle(Colin Piercey), Halifax; sons, Stephen, Halifax; Greg, at home; and Keven, Boston; grandchildren, Corey, Matthew, Aidan, and Ashlie. He was also survived by brother Ward, Tanner Hill Road; sisters, Alice Baker, Dartmouth and Marg Berry, Waverley; sister in law, Lillian Salsman, Stellarton; and locally by nieces Shirley and Susan Salsman.
Mel was predeceased by a brother, Rev. Lloyd Salsman; brothers in law, Dave Baker and Harland Berry.
Visitations will be held Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Eagles Funeral Chapel with Rev. Meredith Marple officiating. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery, Westville. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to :
