Obituary of Sterling MacKay
Sterling Rae MacKay, age 56, of Mt. Thom, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 14, 2017 while vacationing in Cuba.
Born in Pictou, on September 12, 1960, he was a son of the late William “Bill” and Clara (Rae) MacKay.
After retiring from the Department of Transportation with thirty-seven years of service, Sterling took a job with Weeks Construction as he was not one to be idle. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed travelling and loved spending time with his girls. Out of the seven billion people in the cosmos he was able to find his one true love, Joanie to whom he was devoted. He was a caring and giving person who touched the hearts of all who had the pleasure to know him.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Joan (Heighton); daughters Melissa and Courtney, both of Stellarton; sisters, Kelly Fraser (John), Coldbrook; Lee Sibille (Eric), Salt Springs; Heather Ellis (Allison), Cove Head, PEI; Ann McNeilly (David), Fredericton, NB; brothers, Strachan (Karen), Four Mile Brook; Everett (Leah), West River Station; Bill (Linda), Stellarton; sister in law Helen MacKay, Salt Springs, Brothers and sisters in- law nieces and nephews and especially by his dear friends Steven and Terri-Lee MacKenzie, Saltsprings.
He was predeceased by brother Sandy.
His family received visitors on Friday June 2 at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral was held 11 am Saturday, June 3 from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville.
