Obituary of Stephen Sitarski

Stephen Marianus Sitarski, Salem, Pictou County, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2010 in his 93rd year at Valley View Villa, Riverton, Nova Scotia where he had resided for the past two years. Predeceased by his devoted wife of 69 years, Bernice in July, 2009. Stephen is survived by his children Christine (Wayne) Bullock, Grimsby, Ont.; Edward (Trudi) Johnson, Virgil, Ont.; Helen (Glynn) Salter, Salem, Pictou County, N.S.; Mary Sitarski, Ottawa, Ont.; six grandchildren, Stephen (Leann) Stecyk, Dwayne (Ginette) Johnson, Lorrianne (Joe) Tonellato, Sheryl Johnson, Wade (Cathy) Salter and Amanda (Benny) Cox and six great-grandchildren, Graceanna and Hartleigh Stecyk, Catherine Redmond, Alexandra and Matthew Tonellato and Spencer Cameron. Stephen was also predeceased by his parents, Jan and Mary, his infant son, Stephen, his brothers Henry and Edward and his sister, Josephine. Stephen was born in Toronto, Ont. on Sept. 2, 1917. At the age of 3, he and his family left Toronto to reside in Poland. He returned to Toronto when he was 21. He worked at Anaconda Brass up until 1944 when he moved to the Niagara Peninsula to begin farming. Stephen was also an employee of General Motors for 19 years in St. Catharines and was a fruit farmer for 25 years. After his retirement because of his love of the outdoors he worked part time for the Niagara Parks Commission helping maintain parkland along the beautiful , picturesque Niagara Parkway. He also worked at Samco Brass in St. Catharines. Stephen and Bernice moved to N.S. in 2006. Visitation was at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, N.S. His funeral service was held, February 5, 2010 from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville. Burial took place in Seaview Cemetery, Pictou.
