Obituary of Ethel Gordon
Ethel L. (Taylor) Gordon of Acushnet, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at The Oaks in New Bedford, MA. She was the widow of the late Robert Gordon, the love of her life and best friend who passed away in December 2000. They shared a very happy 49 years marriage.
Born in Stellarton on July 5, 1930, Ethel was the youngest of 16 children born to parents William and Bessie H. (Davidson) Taylor. She was predeceased by all of her siblings and her parents.
She was survived by daughter Mary Emsley (Marc Cenerizio), Achushnet, MA; sisters-in-law Rose Gordon(late Howard), New Glasgow; Barbara Gordon (late Donald), Hilden; her grandchildren, Heather Lynn Emsley, Gregg Emsley (Nicole), Marc A. Cenerizio and Tony Cenerizio (Michelle); great-grandchildren Nicholas, Sophia, Alexander and Alyssa Emsley; Amanda, Olivia and Andrew Cenerizio; great-great grand-daughter Jillian Rufino. Ethel was a “second mother” to Diane Garceau, Seekonk, MA, whom she loved with all her heart. She leaves her dear friend Ilia Cenerizio, Acushnet, MA, and her life long friend and traveling companion Lorna MacNeill, Kissimmee, FL. Ethel was affectionately know as Aunt Ethel or Aunt Pinky to her many loving nieces and nephews both in the USA and Canada.
Ethel and Robert moved from Nova Scotia in 1961 to South Attleboro, MA and eventually to Attleboro, MA. She relocated to Acushnet in 2006. She worked in the Courtesy Booth of Fernandes Supermarkets in Attleboro retiring in January 1994.
Ethel was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and was “Nana” to all. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family, especially by her dog, Haystack. Ethel has returned to be with the love of her life where together from above, they will watch over all of us.
In accordance with her wishes, Ethel was cremated. Her funeral service was held at Middle River Presbyterian Church, Rocklin where 2 o’clock on Saturday, July 8 with Bonnie Langille officiating. Burial was in Mill Brook Cemetery.
