Obituary of Judy Jackson

Judith Marie “Judy” Jackson, age 61, of Watervale, Pictou Co., formerly of Westville, passed away after a brief illness, on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with her daughters by her side. Born in New Glasgow, she is a daughter of Muriel (MacKenzie) Jackson and the late J.W. Charles “Sonny” Jackson, Westville. Judy was an avid gardener, taking great pride in her flowers. She was a lover of nature, especially enjoying her pets Max and Tessa, as well as the wildlife around her home. Her passion was playing the bag pipes, starting at an early age, first with the Dunvegan Girls Pipe Band, and was currently was with the Pictou County Pipes and Drums, where she participated this summer in the Canada Day and Lobster Carnival parades. She was a member of St. Bees Anglican Church. Judy will be dearly missed by her partner Billy Young; daughters Sarah Barnes (Gordie), Mt. Thom; Laura Kelly (Dave Hape), Toney River; step-daughter Sophie Young (Matt Johnson), Westville; grandchildren Logan and Lily Barnes, and Jacob Kelly. She is also survived by her mother Muriel; brother Charles “Chuckie” Jackson (Muriel), West River Station; sisters, Joanne MacMillan (Jim), Mill Brook; and Susan Jackson, Westville; and her special Pipe Band family. Judy rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral servicewas held 11 a.m. Wednesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Darlene Jewers officiating. Burial was in St. Bees Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.
