Obituary of Agnes Hicks
Hicks, Agnes Blanche – 1920-2010. With sadness, the family announces the passing of Agnes Blanche Hicks on February 6, 2010, Fergus Hall, Parkland Estates, Truro. Born in Westville, she was the eldest child of the late William and Irene (MacGregor) MacQuarrie. She is survived by her daughter, Judith (John) Wheelock, Truro, son, David (Karen) Hicks, Lyons Brook, grandchildren, Andrew (Carolyn Townsend) Wheelock, Halifax, Suzanne (Mark) Mosher, Bridgewater, Stephanie (Scott) Tobin, Kelowna, Leah (Tom) Willett, Toronto, great grandchildren, James and Ruby Wheelock, Zoe Mosher; Josephine Willett, sister, Irene (Charles) Johnson, Truro, sister-in-law, Lorrayne MacQuarrie, Halifax, and the Johnson and MacQuarrie nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William, infant son, Bruce, and brother, William MacQuarrie. Agnes valued family. Spending time with her immediate and extended family brought her great joy. Travelling to Scotland as a member of Clan MacQuarrie gave her the opportunity to retrace her ancestral footsteps. She was a life-long learner and teacher; graduating from Mount Allison University in 1972. She was an avid curler and golfer, competing at the local and provincial levels. She represented Nova Scotia during a Canada/Scotland curling exchange in 1975. In 1995, she was named an Honourary Life Member of the Abercrombie Golf and Country Club. Through the years, Agnes belonged to a bridge club (50+ years), enjoyed her Pictou County friendships, the University Women’s Club, St. Paul’s UCW (Life Member), Ceilidh Girls Pipe Band Auxiliary, painting, and summer living at Chance Harbour. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. A memorial service and internment will be held at a later date.
