Obituary of Jenny Marshall
Jennie Mae Marshall, age 95, of Valley View Villa, formerly of Westville, passed away March 7, 2009.
She was born in Grand Pre, on July 12, 1913 to Joshua and Elizabeth (Dauphnee) Reid.
Jennie spent most of her younger years living in Stellarton, and moved to Westville after her marriage to Stanley "Dewey" Marshall in 1932. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been predeceased by sisters, Helen Johnston, Margaret MacKay, Maude Fleming, and Dot Nugent and brothers William and Rae Reid. Jennie enjoyed a long and happy marriage of 52 years with her husband Dewey who passed away in 1985. They had three children, Bill, Robert and Grace. Bill passed away in 2001 and Robert died as an infant. She was a loving mother to Grace (Keddy) Elwood Gratto, and daughter in law Anne (Power) Marshall. She had five grandchildren, Bill (Audrey) Marshall, Chester; Darrel (Peg) Marshall, Calgary; Noreen (Jay) Dooley, Westville; Heather Keddy, Halifax; Stanley (Terri) Keddy, Westville. She was predeceased by two grandsons, Robert Keddy (infancy) and Donald Keddy; and son in law Paul Keddy. She had eighteen great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister in law Sadie Reid, Stellarton
Jennie was well known for her hospitality and welcomed one and all into her home. She showed kindness and consideration and constantly gave of her time and talents to others throughout the years of her life. She was appreciative of individuality and was non judgmental of others; excepting each person for who they were. She was a homemaker and her door was always open to friends and guests. She loved to cook and bake and was well known for her biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and scones. She was a second mother and Grandma Jen to many. She loved children and spent many happy days filling her car for a trip to the cottage in Edgerton or fishing. There was always room for one more, be it in the car or the dinner table. She bestowed her graciousness to young and old. She also devoted several years of her life caring for her mother and brother Rae in her home until their deaths. Jennie was a founding member of the Dunvegan Girls Pipe Band. She was a devoted supporter and band mother sewing uniforms and costumes. She traveled with the band along with her husband Dewey who was a drum instructor for 23 years. She also served as a den mother for Girl Guides at summer camps.
In her later years, Jennie continued to develop and exhibit more of her artistic talents by taking up oil painting. She was a participant of the Westville Heritage Group and remained an active member of the Happy Hoofers Line Dancers into her later 80's. Jennie lived her life in Westville, until she moved to Haven Brook Manor in 2002 and Valley View Villa in 2004. Special thanks is extended to the staff at Valley View Villa who constantly devoted wonderful care to our mother and grandmother during the last years of her life. Your kindness to her and us will always be remembered. Visitations were held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville where her funeral service will be held March 10 with Rev. Norman Marple officiating. Burial in Auburn Cemetery. Family flowers only , donations to any charity.
