Obituary of Douglas Turner
It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas K. Turner announce his passing on Thursday January 11, 2018, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Westville, July 8th, 1938, he was the son of the late Joe and Mag (Bigney) Turner.
Doug worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Nova Scotia Hospital before joining Canada Post where he worked for 31 years.
He loved the outdoors, spending a great deal of time tending his flower and vegetable gardens.
Summers were spent at the cottage, where he enjoyed walking on the beach and watching the sunset. Bowling and Curling were his choice of sports, belonging to bowling leagues and curling clubs until his illness, when he could no longer participate. He was a hard worker who took pride in everything he did – a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather.
He will be greatly missed.
Doug is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen (MacKenzie) Turner; daughters Paula Morash (Richard), Middle Sackville; Karen Reid, Oakfield, and his pride and joy his three grandsons Nicholas Morash, Larry and Mason Reid.
Also survived by brothers Allie Turner (Vivian) New Glasgow; Rick Fillmore (Matilda) New Glasgow and several nieces, nephews and extended Family.
He was predeceased in May 2017 by son-in-law Ken Reid and infant grandson Jordan Morash in 1994. Brothers Jerry and Joseph Allan; Sisters Josephine, Mary Jane, Pearl MacLean (Burns), Annie Quinn (Chester), Alice MacInnes (Charlie), Mabel MacIsaac (Archie) and Harriet Avery (Cecil).
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 1 -1:45pm on Wednesday January 17, followed by his Memorial Service at 2pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
Spring internment will take place at Auburn Cemetery, Westville.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Doug’s name to your local S.P.C.A. or charity of your choice.
