Obituary of Alexander Brenton Daley

Alexander Brenton Daley, age 79 of Poplar Hill and formerly of Westville, passed away suddenly on Friday March 23rd, 2018.

He was born Dec. 28, 1938. Brenton was many things to many people, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He joined the army in 1956 and was a peacekeeper in Egypt during the Suez crisis in 1958- 59. He was also a peacekeeper in ordinary life. He loved his family and all children everywhere. His eyes would light up and he would smile every time he saw a child and they would immediately connect with him and smile back. He was also a lover of all animals especially horses. He always loved a game of cards and playing darts at the legion and movie nights with friends Marie and Greg Morais. He had many talents and was a "jack of all trades" having worked in a sawmill at a very young age and also worked as a woodsman, mechanic, tow truck driver, milk truck driver, oil truck driver and carpenter. He was a dairy farmer for twenty years and was proud of their herd of Ayrshires that won many awards for milk production and in the show ring both locally and nationally. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 16 Pictou where he served a term on the board of directors and chaired the poppy committee for two years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Sheila, son Brenton (Jackie nee Matchem), daughters Lorraine (Archie), and Linda (Wayne Boswell) grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Buchanan, Alex (Brittany) Daley, Daniel Richardson, Matthew (Anna) Boswell, Amanda Boswell, Lauren Daley, great grandchildren Alexis Buchanan, Gracelyn Daley, brothers Bobby (Catherine ) and Reg (Cathy), sisters Jennie Gostock, Jessie (Jack) Landry, Betty Jean (Gordon) Sutherland, sister in law Becky., sister in law (Josephine (Cameron) MacDonald, brother in law John Boates ( Charlotte) and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his infant daughter Carol Lynn, parents Elda and Ernest Daley, brothers Gordon, Geordie, Ian, Jimmy, and Jerry, and Douglas in infancy, sisters in law Donna (Gordon), Eileen (Ian), Mary (Jerry), and brother in law Ed Gostock (Jennie).

He has been cremated and there is no visitation but there will be a celebration of his life at the Royal Canadian Legion in Pictou on Tuesday from 1– 4 p. m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 16, Pictou.
