Obituary of Arthene Ella Russell

It is with sad hearts and fond memories that we are announcing the passing of Arthene Ella (Wood) Russell (Artie).

Born to Bill and Annie Wood on June 27th, 1946, the 6th of 8 children, she grew up in Westville where her mom moved to after the sudden death of her husband in 1952. Her life mirrored that of her mom's in the staunch and unwavering dedication she displayed raising her own children Danny, Lorrie and Tommy.

Artie passed away peacefully on April 8th, in the company of her son Tommy and daughter-in-law Patti with whom she lived happily for the last year and a half of her life. Regrettably, she had to give up the proprietorship of the Village Variety in Hopewell which she ran for 10 years, due to her long battles with serious health issues (about which she never complained, always putting everyone else's concerns ahead of her own). In the words of John Currie of Hopewell "Arthene was an integral part of the village of Hopewell and daily worked 12 hour shifts for 10 years to keep the Village Variety a going concern in our little village, the coffee was always hot and the atmosphere always friendly. We will miss you greatly. R.I.P. my friend!"

It can be said about Artie that she had a nurturing spirit and she enjoyed preparing food for those close to her. The skills she developed as a professional cook were put to good use even after her retirement from that profession, this was one of the many ways she expressed her love.

She was greatly cherished by her 3 children: Danny (Muriel), Lorrie (Rob) and Tommy (Patti). She was also a beloved Nanny to David (Shay), Elaine (Jimmy) and Robert and her 2 greatgrandchildren Colin and Abby and chosen grandson Colin Murphy. She was also survived by her siblings Lil, John (Leona), Jim (Tina) and Ron (Lorna); sister-in-law Betty; numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly like her own. She had many friends whom she cared about deeply but she had 2 best friends in her life whom she cherished greatly: Bim (MacLellans Mtn) and Jane (Ontario); also her appointment chauffeur Bernie (ex-husband and friend); her go to confidants John and Lester and her 2 fur babies Tiffany and Scamp.

She was predeceased by her parents Bill and Annie; brothers Arthur, Chester, Bill and brother-in-law Wilson(Mac).

There will be no visitation or service by request. Donations in her memory can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

"A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong"

Thank you to everyone for all of your support, she will be sadly missed and never forgotten.

                                        Tom, Dan and Lorrie
