Obituary of John Frederick Matheson

John Frederick Matheson, age 71., MacLellan's Brook, formerly of Bayfiled,  passed away peacefully with his loved ones at his side at the Aberdeen Hospital April 20,2018.

John was born in Bayfield, Antigonish to the late Thomas & Bernadette

Matheson. He was predeceased by six brothers: Roland, Bobby, Ralph, Timmy, Charlie and Jimmy.

In his early years he worked on many construction sites. He was retired from Northern Pulp, formerly Scott Maritimes. He belonged to the UA Local 721 Prince Edward Island & UA Local 244 Plumbers & Pipefitters Antigonish, as well as the Northern Pulp Mill Local 440.During his career as a pipefitter he enjoyed connecting with many people, playing tricks & jokes and sharing stories with his co-workers.

He was well known as Big John-Little John by his friends especially with his weekly Monday Morning coffee meetings with his fellow retirees. John was a warm kind-hearted man & easy to befriend. He supported many benefits, fundraisers and celebrations. He especially enjoyed going back to Bayfield to socialize and support his home community. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs Fan. He enjoyed playing hockey in the Westville Gentlemen’s Hockey League. One of his favorite past times was going for scenic drives with many family & friends.

John leaves behind sons Jonathan -Westville, Michael-Dartmouth;

and his stepchildren: Danny, Airdrie, Kenny, Ottawa, Terry (Cindy) Eastern Passage, and Stephanie(David)Westville. He is also survived by his sister Anita, (John) MacDonald,  Montague, PEI. as well as many extended family members, sister-in-law’s, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was a family oriented man and loved everyone dearly.

We would like to acknowledge and thank the many Drs’, & ICU Nurses who provided exceptional care to our father during his brief illness.

Cremation will take place under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville There will be no visitations or funeral service by  his request.

Donations maybe made in his memory to the Aberdeen Health Foundation.
