Obituary of Lenora Leese
The family of Lenora Gail (Sim) Leese of Westville wish to announce her passing on May 19, 2018 at the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Born on October 20, 1942, Lenora was the youngest of five and the only daughter of the late Thomas and Abigail (Kirk) Sim. Lenora grew up with the protection of four big brothers in Thorburn and as a young lady first showed her caring and compassionate nature in her role as aunt to many nephews and nieces. After marrying Dave in 1962, Lenora became a full-time mum to David Alan (Marjorie), Westville and Wanda (Todd Pellerine), Enfield. As a mother, Lenora spent countless hours supporting her children in their activities. While David was an air cadet, she became a Civilian Instructor with the #374 Air Cadet Squadron in Stellarton for many years. Then, after Wanda joined the pipe band, Mum became first a band mother and then President of the Dunvegan Girls Pipe Band, travelling and supporting the band and all of her ‘Westville Girls’. Mum also enjoyed many years as an active member of Westville Chapter #24, Order of the Eastern Star.
When her children were grown, Mum returned to work on a new and appropriate career path at Valley View Villa, achieving her certificate as a Continuing Care Assistant. Mum loved her residents and was always picking up gifts or doing something to make them feel extra special. Next, Mum turned into Grandma. Her world was filled with first two boys (Joey, Calgary and David, Halifax; also known as Grandma’s boys) and then expanded when Noah and Abby (Pellerine), Enfield, arrived. Grandma would do anything for her grandkids, loving them completely and often taking them to Grandma’s house for sleepovers and special treats.
Lenora is also survived by her brothers Ralph (Rose) Sim of Meiklefield and Fred Sim of Broadway, sister-in-law Lillian Sim of Thorburn, aunt Irene Kirk of New Glasgow, stepgrandson Rahshawn Weir of New Glasgow, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Charles (Bunny) and Ross, and sister-in-law Ethel.
Visitation was held on Monday, May 21 from 6:30-9 at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with private family service to follow. Donations in memory of Lenora may be made to LORDA Park or the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital.
