Obituary of Bill Canning
William Jay “Bill” Canning, 49, Rutherford Street, Stellarton, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 13, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his family at his side after fighting a courageous battle with his health for several years.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Gordon and Mina (Cummings) Canning, Stellarton.
Bill was a former employee of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 28 Stellarton and prior to that was a dispatcher for Midtown Taxi. He was an avid dart player who also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be missed by all.
Bill will be lovingly missed by his wife Anne (Sampson); children, Steven Fougere (Karen), Frankville; Kim MacKinnon (David), Seafoam; Andrea Fougere (Lawrence Grace); Stellarton; grand children, Carlee, Hannah, Morgan, Chelsea, Jessica, Breanna, Russell, Sydney, and Levi; special girls Maggie and Mazie. Also survived by sister-in-law, Wendy Head (George), Abercrombie; nephews Chris, Colin and Robin Coady and niece, Heather Pulicover and many aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, James Duff, Lori Davis and Lori MacKinnon.
Cremation had taken place. His family will receive visitors on Monday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 28, will conduct a service at 6:30 Monday at the Funeral Home. His memorial service will be held 2 o’clock Tuesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. John Roy officiating. Family flowers only, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Dialysis Unit, Pictou; The Canadian Diabetic Association or to a charity of one’s choice. A heartfelt thank you to the health care providers who assisted Bill in so many ways.
