Obituary of Catherine Nelson

Annie Catherine "Cathy" Nelson

Cathy Nelson was called to her eternal home in heaven on August 18, 2018 from the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow where she had been a patient for the past 3 weeks.

Cathy was a daughter of the late William and Helen (Ross) Dowell.

Cathy is survived by a daughter Caterina Ross, Ontario; four grandchildren, Shawn Ross, Amanda (Tynan) Draper, Cassandra Page and Jaden Webb; four great-grandchildren, Daphne and Gwendalyn Draper, Alyssa Page and Adaly Fahie. She was also survived by aunt Marion Dowell, Westville; sister-in-law Margaret Forbes, Little Harbour; and her many friends in the community. She was blessed with many wonderful cousins on both sides of her family.

She was predeceased by her first husband Lawrence Ross, early in her first marriage and by her second husband Currie Nelson from Mill Brook, where they lived for several years in his family farm before moving to Alma and then Westville. Cathy had resided in Westville for the past twenty years.

Cathy was a dedicated Salvationist who committed many years of service to the Salvation Army in Westville and throughout Pictou County. She held many positions of leadership over the last forty years in the Salvation Army and before that in Gairloch Presbyterian Church. Cathy was also involved in the Pictou County Ukelele Group under the direction of Helen Jordan and sang and played at many senior residences in Pictou County. Cathy had the gift of music and by shareing her talents with many has earned her reward in the Heavenly Choir. She has left a deep space in our hearts. We will miss her driving her scooter "Perfect" down the Main Street of Westville. She also leaves her two canine companions Chihuahua’s Chico and Chica.

Cathy is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Westville Salvation Church with Major Wayne Pike officiating and assisted by CSM Fred Jeffery (Ret’d). Burial will be in Mill Brook Cemetery.
